"This poster attempts to alert our community to the increasing problem of injecting drug use and the dangers hidden in sharing needles and syringes. A variety of spears are shown. Spears served a valuable function within the community, defending people and providing food. But when misused, they can kill. Like spears, syringes can protect our life, or they can threaten it. Through immunisation and insulin injection, syringes can provide 'food' for a healthy community. But if they are used to inject other drugs such as heroin, speed, or pills, they can destroy the health of the individual and the community. In this painting, hand stencils represent the signature of all Indigenous people with a message to 'STOP' the 'Invasion' of injecting drug use, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis into our community.
