Historical Background
Since patients with AIDS were discovered and confirmed in the United States of America in June 1981, AIDS has been spreading around the world at a terrific rate and in Japan also the first AIDS patient was discovered in March 1985.

Historical Background
Since patients with AIDS were discovered and confirmed in the United States of America in June 1981, AIDS has been spreading around the world at a terrific rate and in Japan also the first AIDS patient was discovered in March 1985.

Historical Background
Since patients with AIDS were discovered and confirmed in the United States of America in June 1981, AIDS has been spreading around the world at a terrific rate and in Japan also the first AIDS patient was discovered in March 1985.

"Japanese Foundation for AIDS Prevention -- Historical Background and Activities
The objective of Japanese Foundation for AIDS Prevention are"
• To disseminate information for the prevention of AIDS
• To promote research on prevention, treatment, etc. of AIDS
• To exchange internationally information on AIDS
and thereby contribute to the improvement of wealth and welfare of the people, with the Foundation being established on June 1, 1987.

Historical Background
Since patients with AIDS were discovered and confirmed in the United States of America in June 1981, AIDS has been spreading around the world at a terrific rate and in Japan also the first AIDS patient was discovered in March 1985.
Since then, AIDS has come into the limelight as a problem close and familiar to everyone.
Under the situation where no effective vaccine or drugs for treatment have been yet developed, there arose rapidly the consensus that the eradication of AIDS is the foremost problem of mankind.
Based on this fact, in February 1987 the government decided to promote AIDS control comprehensively without a moment's delay before the situation takes a serious turn and made a firm policy determination to subsidize private organizations for the promotion of research on AIDS and along with it energetically educate and build up these organizations and thereby, after obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, established this Foundation in June 1987.
